One of the most important qualities to develop in our lives is the quality of FAITHFULNESS. Faithfulness means being true to your word, keeping your promises, being loyal, being reliable, honest, and trustworthy.
Unfortunately, lack of faithfulness, or ‘unfaithfulness’, is becoming quite rampart in our society.
- A recent study revealed that up to 70% of high school students admitted to serious cheating on tests.
- More and more people are lying on their tax returns, on their resumes, on reports, and in conversations with other people all the time. All up, it is estimated that we are lied to about 200 times each day!
- Other studies reveal that almost 50% of married women and over 50% of married men engage in extramarital sex at some time or another during their relationship.
I don’t know about you, but I find these statistics incredibly alarming. But the sobering truth is that each one of us (me included) have the same potential for unfaithfulness. I encourage you today to make a choice to be a faithful person. Be honest. Keep your word. Tell the truth. It starts in the little things.
Faithfulness … Think about it.
Whenever I read of these endless studies/surveys done on our society (which must have a serious if not terminal case of navel-gazing) I can’t help wondering if the people who fill in the surveys are telling the truth- or given these results- more likely, are they telling more porky-pies?!
Oh dear, life is SO complex- but as I was always reminded when growing up- if you tell the truth, you don’t have to worry about your memory letting you down! (except when Alzheimers sets in of course)
Or as someone near and dear to us all once commented- “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free”. I think this pertains to speaking and living truthfully as well.
Of course, as our society would endlessly remind us- no-one (apparently) wants to be told the truth when they ask- does my butt look big in this? Perhaps this popular question in our culture- like so many other popular sayings- should be designated to the scrap-heap!
Just kidding……….!!
Christians aught to know better than the world. Whenever being tempted, we aught to RUN to God!!! He has made a way for us by the power of the blood to stand strong and courageous, as the redeemed of our LORD Jesus Christ, and we are more than conquerors who are able to defeat the scheming ploys/tactics/agendas/ of the enemy. Fear God only and resist the devil who is a LIAR!
1 “I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to Him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
2 “For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough”
~ 2 Corinthians 11:1-2 NIV
Ps. Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God: but he that does evil has not seen God. – 3 John 1:11
Hi Mark,
For many years I’ve been pondering about Rahab lying to the king of Jericho about hiding the Hebrew spies (Joshua 2:4-5)…
Is there any type of lying that is permissible in God’s eyes, for example when one has only good intentions as it seems to be the case with Rahab – saving lives?
